Hot Vehicles Kill - 10 Minutes to disaster
If its hot, your pet may be in trouble! During warm weather pet owners must take precautions against the danger of heat exhaustion and heatstroke for their pets. The temperature in a parked car, even in the shade with the windows partly open, can rapidly reach a level that will seriously harm or even kill your pet.
Dogs (and cats) cool themselves by panting and by releasing heat through their paws. On summer days the air and upholstery in your vehicle can heat up to high temperatures that make it impossible for pets to cool themselves.Your dog will be more comfortable if left at home. Quote : BCSPCA
A few hints to try
In the past few years that I have been at the Swakopmund S.P.C.A. I have heard quite a few hints that may or may not help you but try anyway.
Your dog barks for nothing: Do not scold him, he will recieve the attention he was seeking for.
Rather try the following, water baloons, ice cubes even a ball, by throwing the object, the animal will not asociate the item to you, say nothing go out or stand at a window and throw the item at the animal, it must not harm him, so please do not use stones or hard objects, the fright he gets should be enough after a few sessions.
By doing this he does not get your attention but rather the attention of something cold, wet or unpleasant.
Digging in the garden
Once again do not scold the animal unless you catch him in the act. (Animals are like children they do not remember words they remember acts)
Use his own poo, put that in the hole and simply close it, they do not like scratching in their own poo. You had to pick it up anyway,it is a good fertilizer aswell.
Washing from the line
Dogs pulling washing of the clothes line, can meen he likes or dislikes the current washing powder you are using, try changing your washing powder.
Never give your dog, or play with rags or shoes, he does not know the difference between your N$2000.00 evening gown and the oily rag in dads garage, the same with shoes.
Always reward good behavior never give attention to bad behavior. Rather ignore the bad and find ways to reward the good.
Problem cats
Having problems with stray or wondering cats. Paw prints on your walls, try the following citronella oil rubbed or dripped on the top of your walls may help to keep them away, apparently cats do not like the smell. Renew it frequently as the cent does not last very long. Good luck.
